OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

Under the overall authority of the Director of the UNESCO Bangkok Office and Asia-Pacific Regional Bureau for Education, the oversight of the Chief of the EISD Section, and the direct guidance and supervision of the Project Officer in charge of the Teacher Programme, the intern is expected to provide content, technical and administrative assistance in various projects and activities under the Teachers Programme, which currently include:

  • World Teachers’ Day Asia-Pacific regional celebration;
  • Research-based publications and reports on teacher policy and practice;
  • China Shanghai Funds-in-Trust Project “Promoting the Professionalization of Teaching in Asia-Pacific and Africa through the Development and Operationalization of National Teacher Competencies and Teaching Standards Frameworks”;
  • China Hainan Airline Funds-in-Trust Project “Enhancing Girls’ and Women’s Right to Quality Education through Gender Sensitive Policy Making, Teacher Development and Pedagogy in South, Southeast and Central Asia”;
  • Korea Funds-in-Trust Project “Promoting Global Citizenship Education in the Asia-Pacific Region through a Whole-School Approach”;
  • China-sponsored Wenhui Award for Educational Innovation in the Asia-Pacific Region.

Specific tasks include:

  1. Conduct research and prepare analysis or summaries for the Teacher projects as guided;
  2. Draft/edit documents, presentations and other working materials as required;
  3. Assist in organizing and supporting in-person and online activities related to the Teachers Programme;
  4. Attend meetings, take notes and assist in preparing summaries if assigned;
  5. Maintain and build up the database and e-archive of the Teachers Programme;
  6. Fulfill other relevant tasks assigned by the Project Officer, Chief of the EISD Section or the Director of the UNESCO Bangkok Office.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor’s degree as the minimum, a completed Master desirable, in Education, Development Studies, Public Policy, Political Science, Economics, Law or other relevant Social Science disciplines; a multi/interdisciplinary background is an asset.

Experience:

A minimum of 9 months of prior working experience, including with international organisations, NGOs, government agencies, educational or academic institutions, and/or multinational companies,

Language skills:

Fluent English (both spoken written); good knowledge of other UN official languages desirable.

Competencies and skills:

  • High integrity and strong sense of responsibility;
  • Ability to fulfill multiple tasks in a punctual and quality manner under time pressure;
  • Strong research and analytical skills;
  • Excellent English speaking and writing skills;
  • Good skills for event organization (both in-person and virtual);
  • Excellent computer skills, with proficiency in Word, Excel, PPT and other Microsoft Office applications; working knowledge of SharePoint, CRM, infographic design, audio and video production is desirable;
  • Accuracy and meticulousness;
  • Ability for taking initiatives and independent problem solving, creativity and innovation;
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively and efficiently in multicultural teams;
  • Customer-oriented attitude and diplomatic sensitiveness.

The Teacher Programme supports of UNESCO Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau for Education supports UNESCO Member States in the region in developing and implementing teacher policies and practices, thereby contributes to ensuring the supply of qualified and motivated teachers in the region, which is crucial for achieving inclusive and equitable quality education.
