Assistant PPH Officer

Terms of Reference

1. General Background

UNHCR is the UN Refugee Agency and takes the lead in providing international protection for 103 million refugees and displaced people worldwide.

Private Sector Partnerships Services (PSP) is a fast growing global division with offices in 19 countries across the world. We have raised financial contribution, engaged the public in support of the refugee cause and broaden the size and scope of partnerships with corporations, foundations and philanthropists. Our ambition is to quickly grow in size, scale and global reach.

In Thailand, PSP has been achieving outstanding results since its establishment in May 2008. Through its diversified fundraising channels in raising funds from both individual donors and developing partnerships, PSP generates funds that go directly to support refugees, stateless people in Thailand and the world.

The Private Partnerships and Philanthropy (PPH) section has proven to create strong partnerships and raise financial contribution from corporations, foundations and philanthropists since 2017 and shows potential in substantial growth in the future.

UNHCR is now looking for a highly motivated and driven fundraiser, with a background in either private sector fundraising, communications or marketing to assist the Head of PSP team to establish long term partnerships with potential companies, major donors and High Net Worth Individuals (HNWIs).

2. Purpose and Scope of Assignment

Under the overall supervision of the PSP Officer (Head of PSP team) in charge of PSP Thailand operation, and in close coordination with the PPH Associate, the individual contractor will assist in the following:

• Identify potential partners and donors from corporations, foundations and philanthropists in Thailand, and build up the relationships with the prospects;
• Contact potential donors; companies, major donors and HNWIs to develop partnerships with UNHCR:
• Provide insights and expectations of PPH donors to enhance possibility and efficiency in engaging with donors,
• Assist to develop fundraising proposals for submission to prospects, in line with the PPH strategies and action plans;
• Assist to enhance the PPH stewardship in line with the global PPH strategies and policies;
• Liaise with global and regional PPH staff as well as field colleagues, when necessary to provide information and answers to the PPH donors;
• Conduct preliminary due diligence screening research about potential PPH donors, and process the due diligence clearance with the focal point of the global PPH unit;
• Monitor market trends related to the overall PSP activities, particularly PPH;
• Ensure the issuance of donation confirmation, upon receipt of the donations from PPH donors and send it to the donors in timely manner;
• Process income recording and prepare report accordingly;
• Attend local meetings, events and conferences related to the PPH activities in Thailand, and assist to organize briefings, meetings and/or events for UNHCR to PPH donors;
• Perform other responsibilities/functions deemed necessary or as delegated by the Representative/Associate PSP Officer in order to meet the level of the services in the organization.

3. Monitoring and Progress Controls

• Establish new partnerships with potential PPH donors according to the set target
• Ensure that PPH income targets are achieved in a cost effective manner
• Number of PPH donors diversified and partnerships with UNHCR continue in a long term manner
• Number of presentation and proposals produced in a year to obtain new partnerships
• Number of due diligence documents submitted to HQ
• Keep abreast of developments on UNHCR’s work both in the country and worldwide and communicate all relevant information to the existing PPH donors
• Closely cooperate with the other units in PSP, PPH HQ and other departments in UNHCR Thailand.
• Positive feedback from existing PPH donors
• Positive feedback from colleagues in PSP, UNHCR Thailand, PPH global network

4. Qualifications and Experience

(List the required education, work experience, expertise and competencies of the individual contractor. The listed education and experience should correspond with the level at which the contract is offered.)

a. Education (Level and area of required and/or preferred education)
• University degree (BA) -preferably in communications and marketing or other related discipline.

b. Work Experience
(List number of years and area of required work experience. Clearly distinguish between required experience and experience which could be an asset.)

• Minimum 1 year for Bachelor degree and 0 year of experience for Master degree or higher
• Experience within the UN system or with an International NGO as a desirable asset
• Proven experience working in raising funds from corporations, foundations and philanthropists
• Access to a network of business contacts at senior management level in Thailand
• Established network in the private sector fundraising sector in Thailand (corporations and/or foundations and/or philanthropists) as an added value

c. Key Competencies

• Demonstrated knowledge the NGO sector and private sector fundraising
• Ability to work and deliver under tight deadlines
• Strong analytical and decision-making skills with a sense of comfort working with data driven decision processes
• Excellent knowledge of English / written, oral, comprehension
• Ability to interface effectively and professionally with key UNHCR staff
• MS Office proficiency
